Faith ‘n Fiction Saturday

faith_fiction2

Amy has a very interesting question this weekend…

With the presidential inauguration coming up this week, I thought it would be fun to talk about our favorite fictional politicians. Even though we generally talk about books, feel free to expand your answer to include movies and television shows. Why do you like this fictional leader? What qualities do they possess that you wish our real politicians possessed?

On the flip side, who is the worst fictional politician you’ve read about (or seen on TV) What makes them so bad?

And here in lies the problem…my answers are the same as Amy’s. You see I have a slight obsession with the show 24…

And I agree with her….the best presidental type figure I have ever seen on television or in a book is David Palmer on 24. The man was a great idealist and wanted what was best for this country. He reacted to situations well and handled the office with integrity. I will say that I am liking President Allison Taylor this season. I like how they are dealing with the aspect of a woman president. She seems to be a strong woman who can think for herself and I hope they continue to portray her in this way.

I know Amy said “political” but I do have a great leader in mind…

And he is a book character… Aslan from The Chronicles of Narnia. He loved the Narnian’s and sacrificed Himself for Edmund out of love. Of course he is a type of Christ in the books but in the books and movies any scene He as in was one of my favorites.

As for the worst…I agree with Amy again (see that 24 obsession is a problem!!) Charles Logan was a stinky stinky president and vice president. And what he did to his wife and to the country was horrid. And when he came back to “help” you just don’t want to know what I said. He was a terrorist and hurt so many people, and he was a big ole coward. (I have some strong feeling about this show eh?)

And of course I could add the White Witch from Chronicles of Narnia here. She did not love anyone but herself and was the epitome of all I loathe in a character. C.S. Lewis did a wonderful job of making me dislike her :)

So there you have it…and if you are not obsessed with 24 YOU should be…haha!

Go visit Amy for more Faith ‘n Fiction fun.

Favorite Christmas Ornament…

Kim over at Rainy Day Diamonds (don’t you just love that blog name!) had a fun idea to share your favorite Christmas ornament. I shared about one of my favorites last week so I thought I would share my other favorite this week. This is my favorite “fun” ornament!

Books for the Holidays Meme

The lovely Amy over at My Friend Amy Tagged me for this fun meme….so here goes…

What books are you giving this Christmas?

several different ones that I am not going to share here….just in case they are reading :o)

What makes a book a good gift book?

Hmmm I think when I am looking at books for gift I want the person to enjoy it so I try to make sure I know I know their taste…if they like fiction or nonfiction, or if a gift card to my favorite bookstore might be the best idea.

Do you give the same books to a lot of different people or pick out books individually?

I pick out books individually. I want to make sure I give them something they like. Of course I always make sure and get gift receipts just in case :o)

Do you always give books you’ve read yourself, or are there occasions where you give something that you haven’t read?

Well if I read a book during the year (cause, you know, I read, alot!) if I think someone might like it I add it to my list (yes I keep a list because I think of some great gift ideas through out the year) but, I also give books that I have not read, for example I have a cousin who loves thrillers but I do not care for them so I usually pick one of the best sellers of the authors he has read before. It usually works!

That was fun! If you are giving books this year…I want YOU to fill out this meme…and let me know okay!

And check out the Buy Books for the Holidays Blog for great tips!

Passing On Some Homemade LOVE!

Dearest Bloggy Friends,

I want to send YOU some homemade LOVE…

Sweet Kristen at {dancing} in the margins has this little game on her blog and I wanted to play too so….

The game is played like this:

1. The first 3 commenters to comment on this post will win a handmade item from me!

2. Those 3 commenters (and anyone who wants to play along, I think) have to be willing to post the rules of the game on their own blog and pay the handmade love forward by gifting their first 3 commenters with something crafty!

3. There is no set price range. Spend as little or as much as you’d like.

4. Craft-making players have 365 days to make and ship the 3 First Commenters their handmade gifts. (Though you don’t have to wait the full year, if you are a fast crafter!)

So, do you want to play?

If you want a handcrafted item from me, just comment :o) And add the “rules” above to your blog so you can send some homemade love to your bloggy Friends…

Those who comment/play (the first 3!) I will be emailing you soon to ask you a few questions and to get your address too :o)
