The Hole In Our Gospel by Rich Stearns

I think I have been stuck in a rut. I know I was after finishing The Hole in Our Gospel. It’s eye opening. It’s convicting. The book is not for the faint of heart. Which I was. You see my heart it is very breakable. I am just now realizing it. Yet with a broken heart I often do nothing. I think it is often a problem in our society.

We don’t take risk. We are comfortable and like it that way. It is our hole in the gospel. Hands, feet other people try…most of us? We don’t. It’s too risky. It’s just too much.

My heart is easily broken and now after finishing the book I can no longer just do nothing. If anything I came away with the fact I must do something. We are all uniquely gifted. God created us that way. My gift has been missing. It can no longer be that way.

Stearns issues a challenge that we have forgotten about. One that Christ issued to 12 ordinary men all those years ago. The question is….Are we going to rise to it? By choosing to read The Hole in Our Gospel you are issuing yourself a challenge. You are saying what I have been doing is not enough.

About The Book:

“Preach the Gospel always. Use words if necessary.” – St. Francis of Assisi

It’s 1998 and Richard Stearns’ heart is breaking as he sits in a mud hut and listens to the story of an orphaned child in Rakai, Uganda. His journey to this place took more than a long flight from the United States to Africa. It took answering God’s call on his life, a call that hurtled him out of his presidential corner office at Lenox-America’s finest tableware company-to this humble corner of Uganda.

This is a story of how a corporate CEO faced his own struggle to obey God whatever the cost, and his passionate call for Christians to change the world by actively living out their faith. Using his own journey as an example, Stearns explores the hole that exists in our understanding of the Gospel.

Two thousand years ago, twelve people changed the world. Stearns believes it can happen again.
